Renovation & Expansion

NEW YORK, NY

A street-level apartment in Chelsea expanded by incorporating the cellar unit below, creating a vertically connected living space within a 150-year-old building.

The renovation is defined by constraint — maximizing usable space while limiting intervention to the existing structure and mechanical systems. The work relies on disciplined millwork to organize the interior, with integrated pulls and flush detailing maintaining continuity across rooms and circulation.

A restrained material palette — limestone, quartzite, white oak, and painted surfaces — is used consistently throughout. Quartzite countertops provide durability at points of use, while existing brick along the east wall is repaired and whitewashed, preserving the original construction while integrating it into the updated interior.
