Peconic House
Single-Family Residence
HAMPTON BAYS, NY
Set on a bluff overlooking Hampton Bays, the five-bedroom house is embedded within a gentle slope, maintaining a low profile and revealing itself gradually from both the water and the approach on foot.
The plan is organized as a narrow bar to promote cross-ventilation. A planted roof and partial submersion into the landscape provide insulation and thermal mass, moderating seasonal extremes and reducing energy demand.
Upper-level communal spaces open to the bay through large-format glazing, extending interior spaces onto a series of terraces that step with the landscape.
The architecture is defined by a restrained material palette — cedar, white oak, weathering steel, and limestone — detailed for durability and allowed to weather over time. Openings are calibrated to frame views while maintaining privacy and environmental control.
